It’s important to us to make sure they love what they see today and for years to come as they look back at where their adult life started, and smile.
What to Expect from a Senior Portrait Session
Gleason Studios offers in-studio or on-location senior portrait sessions for your grad to express themselves and look back fondly on the formative years of their life. What goes into a senior portraits shoot? Most students choose a theme or a hobby that defines them and/or their academic career. Many will also wish to shoot during a specific time of year, perhaps a favorite season. Whatever the choice, your child should see themselves in every portrait.
It’s always a good idea to dress to impress. Family members love to see their favorite graduate in slacks and button up, a dress and jewelry, or or a skirt and blouse. However it’s also important that your pride and joy is comfortable in front of the camera. For this we recommend a casual outfit as well. Lastly quite a few will already have access to a cap and gown, and these are some of the most popular senior photos out there.
Lastly your child wants to have a location in mind. Schools are always a great choice, as are the city they live, or the countryside/park they love. Knowing the ins and outs of these locations can really get them in the headspace for a personality-filled session.
The most important thing when planning senior pictures is for the subject to be comfortable, presentable, and make the choices THEY want in their portraits. This is a reminder of the golden years of their initial education and the start of their academic and professional career. They should be able to look back fondly and remember their best school days.
Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
When is senior portraits season?
There is no defined “portrait season” per se. Many get their senior pictures in the spring for the most fresh and appealing outdoor look, but senior photos can be taken at any time of the year. If you’re looking for outdoor photos, choose the season that your grad loves the most. Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter, there is no wrong choice for senior portraits.
When do I schedule/take senior portraits? (What grade/age is appropriate for senior portraits?)
Don’t wait two weeks before your child graduates to have their senior pictures taken! Often families choose junior year to take their photos. This gives plenty of time, and choices, for the perfect portraits. While they can also be schedules senior year, the goal is to make sure we have enough time to edit and deliver the stunning pictures of your grad they deserve.
Are senior portraits required, and are senior portraits used in the yearbook?
Senior portraits themselves are not a requirement, however they are a tradition that give your child something to be proud of for many years to come. A celebration of their big achievement. Many schools have a slightly different policy for senior yearbook portraits than previous grades, and often ask the parents to provide said headshots. Most choose to package these portraits in with their standard senior portraits session, and can easily be applied to your package. Please be advised that studio sessions are required for yearbook headshots, and often require an additional fee if bundled into an on-location session.
